About me
Huiyu Chen is an experimental designer and multimedia researcher working at the intersection of generative systems, sound, and engineered interaction. Her practice explores how human perception engages with machine learning—building immersive tools, responsive environments, and speculative systems that challenge how people sense, play, and communicate.

With a background spanning communication design, robotics, and creative technology, Huiyu develops experiences that merge coding, modular robotics, sound design, and motion graphics. She works across performance, education, and collaborative research, partnering with musicians, artists, and interdisciplinary practitioners to prototype new forms of multisensory storytelling.

Her recent projects range from AI-driven interactive music installations and speech-to-motion systems, to Arduino-based kinetic instruments, real-time visual performance tools, and STEAM robotics curricula for young learners. Whether designing machine–human co-creation workflows or building tools that let anyone “cook” unexpected art, she is driven by the possibility of expanding how people think, feel, and connect with emerging technologies.

Huiyu holds a BFA in Communication Design from Pratt Institute and is completing a Master’s degree in Design Engineering through the Brown | RISD Dual Degree program. She has worked across XR research, creative coding workshops, interactive performance projects, and visual design consulting, continually bringing together engineering rigor with artistic experimentation.
